Mussels are currently being farmed in the open waters and transported inland for processing. The new processing factory will help the Whakat\u014dhea M\u0101ori Trust Board achieve their long-term vision of&nbsp;&#8220;Ko te kai hoki i Waiaua&#8221; &#8211; &#8220;To be the food bowl that feeds the world\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The works consist of two large processing factory buildings with a drive-through canopy between them. There are several sections or functions across&nbsp;the factories, including areas for chillers, packing, tray-loading, storage, waste, staff amenities and loading.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A separate office, designed with resemblance to a marae, is located adjacent to the factory and will house staff and visitors. The open-plan office contains a lunchroom, meeting rooms and a commercial kitchen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project is part of the regional growth plan and will bring much needed jobs and opportunities to the people of the Opotiki District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a
